Have you ever thought for a moment that you are really the CEO of your own company? The part of you that's choosing your whole entire life? And that inside yourself you have a 'board of directors.' You may not have consciously chosen them, but they're there now!
So why is there an internal board of directors inside you? Well, that's because those are the people who are closest to you. When you were born, probably your parents, your relatives, your neighbors, your friends, the influencers in your life when you were small - whether they were kind or not, whether they liked you, whether you like them, whether they bullied you, or whether they were the big cheerleaders in your life... that's who's inside you for your internal board of directors! Those early influencers are still there!
They haven't gone away and they've been giving their opinion and voting on your decisions and criticizing your choices all these many years. Some of them are positive and they've been cheerleading you right along, and that's helpful. But some of them have not really been having your best interests in mind.
So how do you find out who's been serving on your internal board and evaluate whether they should still be there?
How do you identify new ones that you might want now, and why would you even want to do this?
Well, the only reason to do this is if you would like to be more successful and satisfied in your life! And if you would like to achieve your dreams, then it's a very valuable thing to look at - your internal board of directors!
My name is Linda Frazee and I've been working for 40 years with people to achieve success individually, in corporate arenas, with our government, and in every walk of life.
My focus has been to encourage people to initiate change and free themselves up for a more successful and satisfying experiences of living. I'm a certified Enneagram coach. That's a personality system that reveals to us just WHY we do what we do. Not just WHAT we do, but why we do what we do. If you've ever wondered why you have internal debates with yourself. If you've wondered about these decisions that you go back and forth on, or what that critical voice is inside. Having an idea of your board of directors 'motives' can really provide a deeper understanding of yourself. And the good news is - you can change your board of directors! The ones inside that have been guiding you all this time that you didn't even know about.
Several years ago, I was working with a man named Jack who had done well professionally. In fact, he'd actually gotten to the pinnacle of what he ever thought that he might. He was happily married, he had two kids, but Jack came to me because he had achieved what he thought he always wanted and yet he didn't feel the success and the joy that he thought he wanted or had expected to have. He knew something was off.
We began to talk and work together. And over time we did this board of directors exercise. He discovered there - sitting right up front in his board of directors internally - was a saboteur! That saboteur had been saying to him that he wasn't good enough, that he didn't deserve his own happiness. And that was a bigger voice than the reality of what was going on. So I worked with Jack and we changed his board of directors! He did! He chose new ones and he fired the saboteur, got him off the board of directors! And his life began to change. Not so much on the outward - the success stayed and continue to grow, but his feelings about it shifted inside.
Now it wasn't instantaneous. I'd like to be able to say, 'here's one more exercise you can do instantly and It will change your life' - it really can over time, but is not instantaneous. And why? Because you have a habit. Jack had a habit of believing that he wasn't good enough and that he didn't deserve it. And that habit just didn't go away with the saboteurs absence. But he did learn to replace it and listen to a new voice and a new internal board of directors.
